GAZE INTO MY CRYSTAL BALL. BEHOLD THE FUTURE… HOW’S YOURS LOOKING?

We may not have a crystal ball we can gaze into to tell the future – but all of us can learn from some of the brightest minds in legal innovation who are thinking about it a lot. To contemplate a lifelong career with a blindfold on makes no sense. It never made sense but it makes less sense today than ever before in the legal sector. To know what’s coming allows you to plan for it and embrace the change – not get left behind by it. Starting this week – an exclusive series of articles in conjunction with our friends and colleagues at Law Made. You won’t want to miss this.

We asked Dermot his thoughts on the greatest challenge facing law – his answer was succinct, powerful and timely: “Inertia. LITIGATION RISK MANAGEMENT: WHAT IS THE MORAL TO YOUR LITIGATION STORY?

LITIGATION RISK MANAGEMENT: WHAT IS THE MORAL TO YOUR LITIGATION STORY?

Courtrooms can be interesting places. Juries are people like the rest of us – and they instinctively seek answers. If you don’t tell the story, the jury will create their own – and you may not like how that turns out. This expert article – presented in conjunction with leading consulting firm BLUEPRINT – speaks to why there are good reasons for trial attorneys to present their cases in story form.  Research has consistently shown that stories are more likely to be comprehended and recalled.  Moreover, when information is not presented in story form, people tend to reorganize the information into stories anyway.  The danger of not providing stories at trial is that jurors will create their own stories to fit the evidence and to fill any gaps which may be inconsistent with a client’s position. Is that a risk you’re willing to take?

LEADING STARTUP COUNSEL OLGA MACK TALKS #LEGALOPS WITH HIGH PERFORMANCE COUNSEL

I also see it as a way for lawyers to become true business professionals who just happen to understand law well — we will no longer be limited to “just” legal work! Consequently, it’s also a way for attorneys to have more rewarding legal careers, where they can spend more time on what matters and provide strategic, impactful advice.

OLGA MACK & NEHA SAREEN: CORPORATE GROWTH AT CISCO – MORE THAN NUMBERS

Those who think gender diversity on boards is merely “for the sake of diversity” can learn from Cisco’s example – our expert Contributors argue. Olga V. Mack and Neha Sareen make the connection between how business is done – and good business. They point to industry leader Cisco, where innovation in tech is matched by innovation in corporate culture. Cisco is one of the few companies that has recognized the importance of gender diversity on its board: when diverse leaders make big picture decisions, corporate culture thrives, and corporate growth follows. Following Cisco’s example, any company seeking corporate growth should look beyond the numbers, and focus on hiring diverse, talented leadership. Diversity at all levels, especially in leadership and boards, creates a supportive corporate culture where employees can thrive. You can read their analysis here.
