George Platsis is a consultant, author, educator and public speaker. He attained US permanent residency as an EB-1A (E11) individual of extraordinary ability for his work as a Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy Specialist.
For close to 20 years, George has worked with the private, public and non-profit sectors to address their strategic, operational and training needs, focusing on projects related to business development, risk/crisis management, resilience, cyber and information security, and cultural relations.
He has worked in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia. Currently, he serves as Director, Cybersecurity at FTI Consulting in Washington, DC, a global advisory services firm.
George primarily focuses on human factor vulnerabilities related to cybersecurity, information security and data security. Some of the issues he tackles include: business continuity, resilience strategies, social engineering, insider threats, psychological warfare, data manipulation and integrity, and information dominance.
As a professional, George advises on cybersecurity/business-related issues, including technology assessment, policy review, framework development and implementation, and cost savings measures.
As an author, his works have been published in industry-leading and award winning publications, including: IBM Security’s Security Intelligence, Bloomberg Law: Privacy & Data Security, Tripwire’s State of Security, Homeland Security Today, Security InfoWatch,Nextgov, BRINK News, Ethical Boardroom, ITSP Magazine, BizCatalyst360, Fifth Domain, and many high audience blogs.
As an educator, George serves as the Program Director of the Centre of Excellence in Security, Resilience and Intelligence at the Schulich School of Business at York University in Toronto, Canada. George has taught and developed modules, courses and programs at the undergraduate, graduate and executive levels in business, business ethics, disaster and emergency management, and cybersecurity.
He is a regular keynote and panel speaker and offers one-on-one coaching and training in many of these listed subject matter areas.
George is a founding member of The #CyberAvengers, a group of seven cybersecurity professionals and influencers that collectively have tens of thousands of followers on various social media platforms. He served as the long-time Special Advisor to the Chairman of The Flag and General Officers’ Network, a war veteran’s network for all US Armed Forces admirals and generals, and remains on staff to this day.
George served as the Chair (2017-2019) of the NGO Committee on Education, Learning and Literacy (New York), a substantive committee of the Conference of NGOs in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations, and continues to represent his NGO, since 2014, at the NGO Committee on the Status of Women (New York).
