I recently spent time with my colleague Navin Mahavijiyan, a consultant and contracting SME with the legal service provider Integreon.  When I asked Navin about what he thinks has changed most in the last couple of years, he says, “The Legal Ops teams we work with are really hitting their stride.  Where they were once (just a few years ago) considered an anomalous group that no one knew what to do with, today they are leading the charge through technology augmentation and process streamlining and reengineering.” So what’s next? “I want to see the next generation of CLM and Matter Management systems fully embrace A.I. and robotic process automation.  A huge stumbling block to technology implementation today is that legal teams exchange one form of low-value work for another, albeit a smaller volume of it. A.I. and RPA have a lot to offer with tracking, connecting data points and performing simplistic tasks for legal teams that would completely redefine how legal work is done.  Legal Departments today face unparalleled challenges BUT they have a mindboggling array of tools at their disposal to meet those challenges, more so than at any other time in human history. We are in many ways on the cusp of a revolutionary change to the way legal teams and lawyers work.” As Dr. Strange from the Avengers said, ‘We’re in the endgame now.’
